Opinion: Our view on whether Spurs should trigger Lo Celso January clause
It has hardly been a dream start for Giovani Lo Celso at Tottenham since his loan move from Real Betis in the summer transfer window.
The Argentine has played only 14 games and 495 minutes for the Lilywhites, scoring one goal with no assists to his name as of yet. He has also only played 90 minutes once for Tottenham (TransferMarkt).
It has now been widely reported that Spurs have a clause in the loan deal that says they can get Lo Celso for cheaper if they buy him now in January.
Spurs can pick up the attacking midfielder for €32m in January or €40m at the end of the season. However, the loan only becomes a mandatory permanent move in the summer if Spurs qualify for the Champions League, if not it is optional (ABC Sevilla).
