Report: 49-year-old manager backed to possibly take over at Tottenham next summer
If you had asked anyone a couple of years ago if Gareth Southgate had any chance of managing in the Premier League again, they would have likely dismissed the proposition out of hand.
After all, Southgate was relegated with Middlesbrough in the last club job that he held and reportedly failed an interview at Sheffield United in 2013 for being “too nice” (The Sun).
As fate would have it, the former Aston Villa centre half was handed the England job on an interim basis following the sacking of Sam Allardyce and hasn’t looked back since.
His performance in the role saw him soon be handed the full-time reins and under his watch, England have been transformed into a quick, aggressive and technically strong side.
