West Ham turned down the chance to sign Gareth Bale for £3m in 2009

Tottenham Hotspur offered Gareth Bale to West Ham for as little as £3m in 2009, according to the Daily Mail.
Bale has established himself as one of the finest players of the planet with his performances this season and the Hammers were the latest club to witness his talent first-hand, as the Welshman scored twice in Spurs 3-2 win at Upton Park on Monday.
But the Wales international, 23, could have been playing in claret and blue rather than white after it emerged that Spurs had offered the winger to a number of clubs, including their London rivals, three years ago.
The offer was made prior to David Sullivan and David Gold’s takeover in January 2010 and a cash-strapped West Ham reportedly declined the offer.
